Epic - Tyranids

The swarm has landed... And multiplied!

The bulk of this army came as a single eBay lot, and I couldn't be happier with it - love the colour scheme.
the rest I've stuck to the old White Dwarf/GW colours, a bit annoyed about the mish-mash of basing, but that's what you get when you cobble an army together.

This should be enough to get me going with playing them, just need a couple of models to complete the lot, and as usual i've ended up with a surplus which will eventually be used as trade fodder!

The Scythed Hierodule is a kit-bash of a 28mm/40k gaunt - and whilst it fits the bill, i think if i do another one i'll use the newer 'Tyranid Warriors' plastics as a base, as they are bit chunkier/armoured and look a bit more like the Forgeworld model it's based on,

Epic - Knights Castallan

Oops! forgot to upload this before going on holiday there...

Ach well, here they are, my Martian/Ad-mech Knight Castallan(s?)

giving a bit of punch to my Mechanicus force - I'm now on the hunt for a single 'Crusader' knight to finish off a detachment of them... oh, and 3 more Lancers to complete the household... then I'm done with the Ad-mech, probably.

Tyranids coming soon! - picking up a started box for a good price locally, then I'm filling the gaps with some eBay finds, and I'll be doing 40k scale conversion for the Bio-titans etc.

Looking forward to it as its an army I've never used/played against so very intrigued!

From out of nowhere... A Dark Angels Assault Company appears

Had a flurry of activity this weekend and both started and finished (almost - still need to decide what to do for the HQ) a whole Dark Angels Assault Company, using Troublemaker Games 'Novan Elite Forefront' Minis as proxies.

I decided to proxy the models for a few reasons - 1) availability 2) cost and 3) he verity of poses to break up the monotony.

Pretty happy overall, especially considering the time spent on them.

Rhinos are pretty redundant as I plan on chucking these guys out of Thunderhawks or riding in Razorbacks for the most part, but still, hand to have them in case the military budget doesn't stretch that far!

Next challenge will be to see if I can do the Devastator company with the same ease - although I might start on the support detachments (predators, whirlwinds etc) in the mean time while i wait for my Troublemaker indiegogo pledge to arrive to give me the troops i need.

Post Holiday inspiration - Epic Land Raiders

I seem to always start posts with apologies of lack of posts, but hey ho!

Apologies for the absence - I've not got a massive amount of new stuff to show for it either, although I have been playing a lot, so guess that's something!

Here's some old school "rogue trader" era pattern Blood Angels land raiders - i'm toying with the idea of having each detachment of the company in a slightly different scheme, to show their elite status and that they have been around for a while!

These are my first attempt, and I'm fairly happy, might add some more bits later (finishing off with flags etc is always the part i miss, but love the old white dwarf look it gives)

So the plans for the remainder of the year (and beyond realistically) are;

Bump my current Blood Angels detachments up to company size (Terminator, Devestator, Assault, Tactical, Bike), Add to the Death company and do some Veteren Assault troops, Furioso dreads etc.
Re-base the old guys (currently on goblin green bases, which looks kind of cool in an old school way, but its a bit boring)

Finish my Dark Angels army (Deathwing, Ravenwing, Battle Company, support units) - mostly base coated, just need detailing.

Finish the Adeptus Titanicus battle group - got 8 Warlord titans, 4 loyalist, 4 Traitor - i've collected all the bits together, just need to decide some paint schemes and crack on.

Orks! - my perpetual back-burner project, still got all the basic clans (aside from Bad Moons, Kult of Speed) to paint, and a boat load of support too.

As well as this i'm still hunting for some bits on eBay and the forums to complete my Ad-mech force...

No worries eh, easy!

Update: The re basing has started! Definite improvement, or waste of time?

Nobody expects the Epic Inquisition!

Ok, i'm in a bad state of affairs now; I'm collecting more and painting less, meaning its a daunting task to start anything new.

The plan is to speed paint/batch paint as much as I can in the next few weeks (starting with the Dark Angels - Deathwing, Ravenwing, Assault and Devestator companies to start) - I'm hoping the quality won't suffer too much, but at the end of the day these guys are going to be playing pieces, and aren't for sitting pretty on my shelf.

In the mean time - I painted up the Chimera/Chimedon proxies from SCP to act as my Ad-Mech assault troop carriers - pretty pleased with them, although they are pretty big compared to the GW ones.

Out of boredom i painted an Inquisitor stand, as I think I have a battle with chaos coming up at some point in the near future i thought i should be prepared!
I'm thinking of doing some Grey Knights too.

So anyhoo, he's whats new;

Waaaaagghhhh!!! - Epic Orks

Once again its been a while since my last update, but rest assured, i've been a busy bee with painting - i'd go as far as to say that i've bitten off more than i can chew (again!)

So, here's some snaps off my Ork horde so far (in honour of painting my Spleen rippas today) - I've not really concentrated on them much, just picking off a few units now and again when i get bored of painting the browns and greys of my IG force! I got a bunch of them painted on eBay a long time ago, and they were portioned up for E40k or Epic Armageddon, so i've spent a bit of time sourcing and painting the additional missing models to make the squads up to SM2/NetEpic spec.

As it stands there is;

Bad Moon Clan
Bad Moon Wierd boy Tower
Bad Moon Stompa mob

Kult of Speed
War track detachment
Scrocha detachment
Spleen rippas

Storm Boyz
Goff Stompas
Goff Dreds

If i'm being self critical i'd say i wasn't paying the orks as much attention to detail as these great sculpts deserve, so hopefully i'll sort that out, and i need to make more banners/flags for them.

I've got an absolute mountain of green skins to paint, but i think i'll prioritise the Goff Clan, Evil Sunz Clan, Fighta Bommas, Flak Wagons and Gargant next!

In other news - i've got a load of imperial flier proxies to paint - so expect some pics of the test models soon.

Also - happy birthday to this blog, its been a fun year of getting back in to the hobby!

Epic - Troublemaker games proxies

Finally got my hands on some Troublemaker Games models to use as proxies for my Ad-Mech tech priests/sevitors and my Imperial Guard Leviathan command centre.

I think these models are great, and my rust job painting them probably doesn't do them justice.

really looking forward to getting my hands on my 'Wave 4' indiegogo pledges from the last campaign.

In other news i've speed painted a whole bunch of IG in preparation for a 2nd play test of the 'New Points Forumla' for NetEpic Gold.

From the first game it is obvious that the cheapness of IG infantry and tank companies can give you a real horde army, unfortunately at the moment the cost of taking heavy artillery and titans/praetorians is pretty insane, in my last game my opponent had 18 more activations than me, fielding a massive IG force against my small, specialised Blood Angels and Warlord titan, so we will see how it plays with the tables turned!

Saturday 16 May 2015

Epic - Reavers!

A quick snap of the Reaver Titan Battle group as they currently stand - fully magnetised to take any load out for any mission!

I'm debating adding a few more details, maybe some decals or stripes but I'm pretty happy with them being battle ready now (maybe I'll add these details after they've had a few battles as campaign medals?!)

Next up - Still waiting on my Troublemaker games order of Ad-Mech and IG stuff, so in the mean time i'll maybe finish off some Orks.

I've also got a hankering to start an Iron Warriors Chaos army - as i'm not bothered about daemons, but like the IW's lore and some of their special units sound pretty cool, so watch this space!

And on the subject of Pre-Heresy siege masters... here's some loyalist Imperial Fists basilisks that I knocked up quickly the other day, the fists logos look a bit nonsense up close, but are fine at a distance.

Epic - Eldar, IG and Titan updates!

Hi,

been working on some odds and ends, adding to some existing forces and generally pottering around aimlessly.

Photos came out a bit dark - need to get back in to my editing I think!

So without further ado...

Warp Spiders and Firestrom AA support for my Eldar;

Some old school Death-strike Missile Launchers for my desert IG (magnetised to allow for missle flight)

And a custom carapace landing pad and recon speeder for my titans, also magnetised to allow the weapons to be swapped out.

Epic - Making a start on the Ad-Mech...

I've began stripping/re-painting some of the units I intend on using for my Ad-Mech force.

So first off the block is my Stormblade company, after finishing them off i've got a few touches to do on a detachment of Knight Lancers, and by the time they are finished my shipment from Trouble Maker Games should have arrived!

I've ordered some 'Cybershadow specialists' to form the basis of my Tech-Guard/Skitarii as well as provide servitors/tech priests for Ad-Mech specialist units - They should look the part!

http://www.troublemakergames.co.uk/did-cybershadows-specialists.htm

Anyhoo - here's some WIP shots... (Knight is looking a bit like Iron-Man!)

Protective packaging for meat...

Just a quick snap of my speed painted IG/Tech Guard Heavy Company and the Gorgons that might be used to take their fleshy bodies to the front of the grinder...

A few mistakes and stray splodges of paint on them, but i'm not fussed, just wanted them table ready ASAP, and was following a scheme that one of the detachments painted by another owner had started (and did a much better job than me!) - still not bad for an hours work, and i brought the Gorgons in-line with my desert theme.

Running out of space on my IG shelf!

I'm using fluff as my defence for mixing paint schemes/basing (rather than it simply being laziness and inconsistency :) ) - the bulk of the force is my Desert themed guys painted only by me, and these are my core of Armour, Recon, Artillery and Air units, for the sake of fluff i'm going to say that these guys don't specialise in infantry combat, they have a small assault company for taking buildings etc, but tend to outsource these tasks to other regiments.
They also bring veteran titan hunting ShadowSwords in on secondment from other planets to help when the big walkers show up...

Got some super heavies sitting in detol at the moment - a Stormblade company to be adorned in Machine God Red to support the Ad Mech/Tech Guard heavy troops, and a StormHammer company to be given a coat of grey to take the Demolishers, Hellhounds and griffons of my Urban regiment through the streets... Hopefully i'll get these started this weekend.

New recruits for the endless war... and a wee bonus

Good Afternoon!

I've got a cheeky little Friday off work and instead of spending it outside in the garden, i'm in my spare room, painting!

but i have a good excuse... A massive care package full of old school imperial guard minis arrived at my door, and I can now finally put together some proper infantry companies and support detachments!

I can also start my Tech Guard/Renegades and add some interesting armour to my existing Desert Guard - starting with some Gorgons.

Also - a prize (no prize really) to the first to I.D. the photo at the end... :)

I'll get some more photos up once I've got some finished stuff to show...

Have a good weekend!

Epic - Urban IG and More Eldar Tempests

Hi,

All quiet at the moment - finally got round to starting my Urban IG force - going to keep it quite simple, with these three support detachments (Hellhounds, LR Demolishers and Griffons), a heavy weapons infantry company and maybe a couple of super heavies.

Also, forgot I had a game coming up where i planned on taking the Eldar out, so rushing to paint up another squad of Tempests to make a Host, so will hopefully finish them this weekend.

I have a few exciting eBay finds on their way to me now, so put it this way - i've got a lot of painting ahead!

Toying with the Idea of an Ad-Mech/Tech Guard force (lots of red!) or a Chaos renegade force, with a mix of marines, Cultists, beastmen, orks and eldar pirates, proper rogue trader stuff!

We shall see...

Also - forgot to post progress on my Orks, so far I've painted a Bad Moon clan, Weird boy tower, Kult of speed, Scorchas, Stormboyz, and 2 Stompa groups - so not long until i have a field-able force!

Checking in and Zombies

I'm still alive!

Apologies for the lack of updates this month - suffice to say I've been busy, but still managed to get some games of Netepic in and do a little painting. (Will get some photos up of the progress next bit of daylight I get!)

Also - just received the rather weighty box from Coolminiornot's recent zombicide season 3 kickstarter. Crazy amount of stuff, and to be honest S3 and the expansions new features don't really do it for me, they just seem to get in the way of quite a slick system. As such I reckon I'll keep all the new characters, weapons and some of the add-ons and punt the rest on eBay! (It takes up a hell of a lot of shelf space to not use it)

Thought I'd maybe start painting some of the zombies for a wee change of scale - for plastic gaming pieces they have great detail and after a bit of scrubbing (to remove the release agent residue) they paint up really easily and look great. Not sure I've got the patience to paint them all however, must have close to 200 of them!

Day time photos (Epic Imperial Guard)

No Chat, just photos as promised...

Operation Human Shield

Keeping the skies clear

Riding in to battle on horseback is pretty manly - but beware drooping lance

Good recon is key!

Burny burny!

Air superiority

Edit:

Hot off the paint table...

Night Painting (Epic Imperial Guard Update)

Putting the brush down for tonight, had a pretty solid days painting;

finished off the Rough rider and Bike detachments, started the Reaver and StormBlade and got the Hellhounds and Hydras to a tableable standard (might pick up some more highlights, company markings etc... in the morning)

Anyhoo, more pics of the full army tomorrow hopefully.

Night all!

I'm back! (Epic Terrain and Imperial Guard Update)

Been away for the last few weeks with work and there has been a pile of stuff accumulating at the post office in my absence.

first off - some old school epic trees! (or as close to them as you can get now.
I love these little guys, really gives my new hills a boost! (hopefully going to get some more as well as some small firs to mix in and make some better scaled forests.

Then i got some reinforcements for my Imperial Guard - i should get them painted this week and ready for battle next Tuesday - lots of new stats/tactics to learn!

To bolster my forces I've acquired;

A Stormblade Super Heavy Tank
Some Hell hounds
Hydras (to deal with those pesky fliers)
and a Reaver titan!

Photos up as soon as they are ready.

Objective sighted! - Epic Terrain and Objective markers

Haven't done much painting this week - been rather busy, and work will have me away from home for most of February and March, so i'm just picking away at some things when I can, and been looking to make some more practical terrain and some nice objective markers for my up coming games of NetEpic.

Making some hills/forest bases.

polystyrene pizza bases, cut and PVA glued together, left overnight with some weight on them, sanded down the edges (a bit, i'm not going for ultra realistic here, more playable - so some flat surfaces are good) covered in ready mixed filler and left to cure.

Added some ruins for details (might stick some smaller rocks on and magnets to base trees)
Then painted with a mix of cheap Burnt Umber acrylic paint, PVA, sand and water. this will undercoat the whole piece, add a bit of texture from the sand and the PVA should help to seal and protect it from damage.

Having a rummage around in my bitz box and this started coming together...

An old MK1 Bombard hull, 6mm ammo box, epic flag pole and some fishing bits, some sprue nubbins, and some 40k space marine frag/krak missles.

should end up looking like a little fuel/ammo dump, just to add a bit of purpose to an otherwise dull objective token.

Will update with the finshed results of both of these when done.

Sunday 1 February 2015

Sunday Sundries (Epic Blood Angels, Terrain and toys)

Just finishing off some small bits (and starting others) as well as some brainstorming/musing about some terrain and imperial drop ships.

Also, i think there will be a Veteran Assault company in my Blood Angels future, and i reckon these guys will make great proxies > http://www.troublemakergames.co.uk/did-novan-forefront.htm

Anyhoo, here are today's snaps;

Currently working on - Blood Angels vindactors, base coated, should be finished in time for my game on Tuesday.

Another Blood Angels Thunderbrick, 4 so far, just giving myself options :)

IG Griffon detachment, got a couple of these with the Bombards from eBay, i like the models, and the stats seem good (big blast template!) so might give them a bash when i get round to finishing off the core of my IG army.

Digging through the old toy-box (AKA rescuing stuff from my damp shed)
i found a load of Kenner MegaForce stuff. each set was a mix of 6mm die-cast tanks/jets/helicopters and a massive transporter for them, I've got a few and i think they would make great pretorian proxies, or could be hacked up for nice terrain pieces.

This big VTOL transporter screams imperial dropship to me! thoughts?

Rummaging in my big terrain bits box i found what had started as some Necromunda/28mm stuff, which i have changed a bit to make it fit 6mm. (might change the 'front door' and add some more details before painting)

Kind of inspired by the big new hospital in Glasgow, with its bad-ass heli-pad.

Finished off the Arty Company for my IG (minus the HQ), glad i went with the newer models, much cooler looking than the old SM2 ones, although now i'll need to think of something to do with all the old ones i have!

Update:

Popped in and out to the paint table throughout the day and got all the minis in my queue finished.
apologies for the bad lighting!

Got some good toys to flush out any dug in enemies now... And a 4th thunder hawk for my airborne Blood Angels!
